Nokia is committed to working with the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications to map the roadmap for the 5G ecosystem in Pakistan.
This was revealed by senior officials at the Department of Information and Communication Technology (MoITT), who has officially launched a consultation for the delivery of fifth-generation (5G) mobile technology services in Pakistan.
The Department has reviewed the seven adoption bands of 5G services in the country and is examining the options available for their timely delivery. The following were tested as lower bands, middle grades, and upper bands:
700 MHz
2.3 GHz
2.6 GHz
3.5 GHz
MiIIi8meter wavelengths
C-Band (3.6-4.2) GHz
Standard Backhaul Frequency Bands (P2P & P2MP)
The department has asked the Frequency Allocation Board to share the current situation with the availability of all 5G layers on these common bands.
The government plans to launch 5G services in the country by December 2022, which will open up new investment opportunities and accelerate the realization of the goal of 'Digital Pakistan', a MoITT official said. Official sources also revealed that IT & Telecom's provincial minister, Syed Amin Ul Haque, wanted to launch 5G services in December 2022, and the first launch of 5G services has been prioritized.
An important meeting with 5G vendors led by Member of the Telecom Muhammad Umar Malik was called to MoITT to discuss its progress. The meeting was attended online by representatives of Huawei, Nokia, and Nokia at their regional headquarters. Police from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and the Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) were also present.
The meeting included detailed technical discussions to assess vendor support and readiness for the delivery of 5G services in Pakistan. The collaborative air band with U and 5G Telecom communications, including a business strategy that launches business cases, is also designed to make the installation more attractive and a win-win situation for citizens, industry and government.
Quoting Nokia representatives, sources said the company is fully committed to sharing its global experience with 5G technology setup, segmentation, and use of cases from other markets and MoITT. The continuation of this partnership to create a road map for the 5G system will help speed up the Digital Pakistan program, sources added.
Minister Haque said the strategic plan and roadmap for 5G technology in Pakistan is being developed while considering the aspects of spectrum management, infrastructure development, and review of telephone regulations and usage / 5G cases.
MoITT has established a 5G Planning Plan in Pakistan, called the 5G Pakistan Plan Committee, to define the road and finalize recommendations for the country's 5G technology readiness. The committee will build strategic and roadmap for 5G technology in Pakistan through the formation of working groups in 5G spectrum management, mobile infrastructure development, and telecom regulation review, including health and safety, 5G applications, and usage cases.
The committee consists of members from MoITT, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), FAB, Office of the Prime Minister (PM) Office SRIU (Strategic Reforms Implementation Unit), PM Taskforce in IT & Telecommunication, academics, mobile operators, and telecommunications vendors.
Last year, the PTA allowed mobile operators to test and test 5G technology in a limited and non-commercial environment. It has released the 'Framework for the Test and Development of Future Technologies (Especially the 5th Generation (5G) Wireless Networks in Pakistan)' to facilitate testing / testing of 5G technology only and related services in Pakistan.
